Superior Court Has Busy Day

Judge William A. Prior, Jr., presided while 30 cases were processed July 7 during a criminal arraignment day in Jasper Superior Court.

The following three individuals pled guilty to charges as indicated and were sentenced as shown:

Clint L. Jackson to theft by shoplifting, criminal trespass and obstruction of officer—sentenced to 12 months with four months to serve and the remainder on probation with a monthly probation charge of $44. Mr. Jackson was also ordered to stay out of Ingles.

Travis Clemons to fleeing police officer and obstruction of officer—sentenced to 12 months to be served on probation and $594 in fines and fees.

Henry T. Jeffries to obstruction of officer—sentenced to 12 months to be served on probation and $594 in fines and fees.

The following six individuals failed to appear to answer charges as indicated, and a bench warrant was issued for their arrest:

John Clifford Lackey—criminal trespass; Ryan Freeman—battery; Mark S. Willis—obstruction of officer and disorderly conduct; Hugie Simmons—theft by taking; Wendell Lewallen—theft by taking; Trellis Ray Bailey—theft by taking.

Also, 17 other individuals pled not guilty and will be scheduled for jury trial unless a plea bargain is struck prior to such date.

Three other cases were Dead Docketed (prosecution will not be pursued at this time).

On the Criminal Motion Day portion of Superior Court, the following three individuals had their probation modified after sufficient evidence was presented to the court that the defendants had violated the terms and condition of their probation sentence:

James L. Johnson, on probation for the conviction of violation of the Georgia Controlled Substance Act in October of 1996, was ordered released from the county jail in order to serve 90-120 days in a state detention center, and upon release return to regular probation supervision.
Raymond Henry Nunn, Jr., on probation for the conviction of burglary in March of 2002, was ordered to serve the balance of his sentence in the State Penal System with an end date of September 12, 2009.

Clint Ledwayne Jackson, on probation for the conviction of the sale of cocaine in July of 2005, was ordered to be released with credit for time served since June 18, 2009, and upon release be returned to regular probation supervision.
