John Toner, III

John Toner, III, 57, of Monticello, died Friday, May 29, at Grady Memorial Hospital after a short illness.

The son of the late Walter John Toner, II, he was a member of the First Methodist Church in Plattsburgh, NY.
He was involved in Boy Scouts in his earlier days as well as DeMolay International.

Mr. Toner graduated from Beekmantown Central School in 1971, and also attended SUNY in Canton, NY, and Clinton Community College in Plattsburgh.

He worked for many years as a deputy sheriff in Plattsburgh and at Dannemora Penitentiary and Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson.

Mr. Toner was a devoted father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend to many. He will be missed by all who knew him, including his pets.

Survivors include his mother, Dr. Barbara Toner of Covington; son, John Toner IV of Dallas; granddaughter, Marcela Erin Toner of Dallas; sisters, Deborah Toner Foley of Newark Valley, NY, Sherrill Toner of Jackson; and other relatives.

A memorial service for Mr. Toner was held Tuesday, June 2, at the chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Rd, Covington.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Walter J. and Barbara F. Toner Memorial Fund for the Traumatic Brain Injury Center, c/o Plattsburgh College Foundation, 101 Broad St., Plattsburgh, NY, 12901-2681.
