Rachel Cornwell Hunter

Rachel Cornwell Hunter, 95, of Dallas, died Friday, May 15, at the Wellstar Community Hospice in Austell.

Mrs. Hunter was born in Monticello to the late Woody C. Cornwell and Ina Chaffin Cornwell. She then moved to Atlanta as a young adult and met and married Lee Moore Hunter, Sr.

She raised two sons while working at Aetna Insurance. After her husband died, she retired to Americus, where she lived until age 90. She then moved to Dallas, where she lived with her son, Robert, and his wife. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Vivian Tyler, Ralph Cornwell, Hardy Cornwell, Woody Cornwell, Harriett Dalrymple, Virgil Cornwell, and Eli Cornwell.

Survivors include her sons, Lee Moore Hunter Jr. and wife, Debbie Powell of Middletown, NY, and Robert Joel Hunter and wife, Vicky Hunter of Dallas; grandchildren, Kelly Hunter, Risë Hunter and her mother, Beth, and Robert “Bobby” Hunter, Jr.; and a host of other relatives.

A graveside service was held Saturday, May 16, at Williams Payne Cemetery. Rev. Hugh DeLoach officiated.

Jordan Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
