Historical Group Meeting, Tour Set

The Jasper County Historical Foundation will hold its annual meeting and host a tour of homes this Saturday, May 2.

The morning is set aside for registration and the annual meeting, and tickets for the home tour may be purchased then. The tour is scheduled for 12:30 to 5:30 p.m., and it is self-guided. Six homes and two schools are included on the tour.

The old Monticello school at 319 College Street will be headquarters for everything, with tours of that building available. In addition, there will be exhibits of historical photographs provided by Benny Hawthorne. The tour ticket includes a photo of each home, and a map to travel between them. Tickets for the tour are $20 and can be purchased at 319 College Street or at any home.

Locations on the tour include the Jordan-Lanier house at 267 College Street, the Talmadge House, 2560 Calvin Road, Kelly-Jones House, 3321 Calvin Road, Burney-Currie House, 281 Hillsboro Street, the Anderson-Page House, 1994 Hwy. 11 south, the Dumas House at 3011 Dumas Road and the old Hillsboro School on Hwy. 11 south.

Advance tickets may be purchased at the Bank of Monticello, McIntosh State Bank and the Chamber of Commerce on the Square.
