Tennis Cougars Compete in Region Tournament

The Piedmont Academy Lady Cougars tennis team wrapped up the 2009 campaign at the region tournament last week.

Competing at Georgia College and State University, the Lady Cougars were led by Beth Hamilton at No. 1 singles. Hamilton won her opening match 8-6 in an eight-game pro set.

Hamilton fell in the next round 6-4, 6-1 to the No. 1-seeded player at region. At No. 2 singles, Ashlan Troutman fell 8-0 in her opening match while Amanda Hauther fell 8-4 at No. 3 singles.

In doubles play, Morgan Gilbert and Briana Bailey won 8-3 before falling 6-1, 6-0 in the second round. Lana Hiett and Caroline Hall fell 8-3 in the opening round.

The region tournament completes the season for the Lady Cougars. “It was a good season for us,” coach Robert McMichael said. “It was fun and the players gained valuable experience.”
