Several Are Arrested
Leonard Lee Davis of Monticello was involved in a three vehicle accident Monday morning, and fled the scene on foot, according to information from the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO).
Later in the day Mr. Davis called the 911 center and filed a report his vehicle had been stolen, after which he came to the JCSO to file a report of the stolen vehicle, but later admitted he was the driver at the scene of the accident. He also stated he ran because he knew he was driving with a suspended license and didn’t want to go to jail.
If Mr. Davis had remained at the scene he would have been issued a citation and allowed to go, said JCSO officials.
Because of the action he took he has been charged with false report of a crime, duty of driver to stop at or return to scene of accident and driving while license suspended or revoked. He was booked into the Jasper County Jail and bailed out on a $3,000 property bond.
