Sure Signs of Spring

Spring officially arrived nearly a month ago, even though there have been many days that have not felt very spring-like.

If the old adage April May flowers holds true, there should be lots of blooms this May. The pink dogwood (above) began blooming as spring arrived, and survived the cold snap and is still going strong.

Another sure sign of spring is the beginning of youth recreation baseball and softball. Opening day for youth who are playing ball at the local recreation complex is this Saturday, April 18, with action beginning at 10 a.m. Every team plays on opening day, so fans need to check with their favorite player to see when he or she will hit the field.

Teams got in a rare practice Tuesday night, as it was not raining, and the fields had apparently drained enough to play ball.
