Baseball Cougars Post First Region Loss
Piedmont had the pitching and defense against Nathanael Greene last week but not the offense.
As a result, the Cougars lost for the first time in region play this spring dropping a 3-0 decision to the host Patriots. Piedmont is now 8-4 overall and 3-1 in Region 1-AA.
Josh Stevenson pitched well enough to earn the win for the Cougars put there simply wasn’t adequate run support.
“Josh pitched a gem,” said coach Danny Camp. “Our pitching and defense were where they needed to be, but we did not take advantage of the couple of opportunities we had to score.”
Piedmont loaded the bases in the third and fourth innings but could not push any runs across.
“We need to get runners on base with less than two outs,” Camp said. “It’s hard to put three or four hits together in a row with two outs. Hopefully, we can get this out of our system now.”
The Cougars are on a true road trip during spring break this week. The team was scheduled to play Fredrica Academy in St. Simons Wednesday and will play two games at Memorial Day in Savannah Friday at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
“We are looking to relax, have fun and have our bats wake up in the process,” Camp said. “We still have a long way to go this season. We are not even half way through our region. We know what we have to do. We may be pressing too much. It is not a lack of effort. I believe things will turn around for us.”
