Z. Wyatt Fowler

Z. Wyatt Fowler, Jr. of Monticello, died January 11, at Abbey Hospice in Social Circle.

Mr. Fowler was born on May 1, 1932 in Atlanta to Nannie and Zeph W. Fowler, Sr. and grew up in Decatur. After graduating from Decatur Boys High and serving in both the Navy and Army, he worked for 30 years with the Decatur Police Department, retiring as a Lieutenant.

Known to friends and family as happy, fun loving, and a one-of-a-kind, Mr. Fowler enjoyed fishing and hunting, and served for several years as president of the Decatur Sports Club. He was of the Methodist faith.

He was a member of Pathogras Lodge #41 F. & A.M., Scottish Rite, and Shrine. Always a pet lover, he could train any dog or bird to entertain with special tricks.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Mary Jean; son Martin Wyatt Fowler and wife Beverly of Auburn; grandchildren Trevor and Lindsay Fowler of Lawrence-ville; sister, Doris Gentry of Morristown, Tenn., two nieces and two nephews; and several great and great-great nieces and nephews; and hosts of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Her-man Fowler, and sister Sara Prattis.

The family requests donations to Abbey Hospice 215 Azalea Court, Social Circle GA 30025, or the charity of your choice in lieu of flowers.

The family will receive visitors Sunday, Jan. 13, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Wheeler Funeral Home in Covington. The funeral service will be Monday, Jan. 14, at 1 p.m. at Wheeler Funeral Home on Brown Bridge Rd, Covington, A graveside service will be held at Fellowship Church Cemetery on Fellowship Road in Tucker, GA.
