Marching Hurricanes Score at Festival

Last Saturday, Oct. 20, the Marching Hurricanes of Jasper County High School competed at the 30th Annual Greater Atlanta Marching Festival.

Established in 1977, the Greater Atlanta Area Marching Festival is the oldest, continuously running marching competition in Georgia.

It was held at Rockdale County High School’s Reid Stadium in Conyers.

The Marching ‘Canes performed against eight other Single A schools. After their division had completed its session of competition, the students stayed to watch the remaining divisions perform their shows; the remaining schools spanned from AA marching bands to AAAAA marching bands.

With their performance and effective display of the musical sound track from the movie Moulin Rouge, the Marching Hurricanes finished with a fourth place overall.

Drum Major Bethaney Herrington received a second place trophy in the drum major category. The drum line achieved the third place spot, and the color guard also brought home a third place trophy for its performance.

Along with placement distinction, the drum major and the drum line received an overall superior rating. The color guard received an excellent and the band overall also achieved an excellent in performance from the judges.

Chris Savage is band director. Students in eighth through twelfth grade can march.
