Bonnie Allen Hughes
Bonnie Allen Hughes, 76, died Saturday, Oct. 6, after an extended illness.
A memorial service is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 9, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Jordan Funeral Home. Dr. John Brown will officiate. The body has been cremated and remains were to be placed in the Allen plot in West View Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, W.T. “Bill” Hughes, Jr.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Dennis Richey of Wilmington, N.C., and Jean and Carl King of Cumming; sister, Elizabeth Allen Huckeba, Monticello; nephew, George Walker Huckeba; stepchildren, Cynthia Pierce, Debbie Rush, Kathy Mudd and Jenny Murphy; grandchildren, Garin Heil, Aaron Heil, Michael Pesses and Jeff King; step-grandchildren, Elizabeth King, Adam Stoddard, Brooke Sullivan, Katie Rush, Abbey Rush, Michael Rush, Hannah Pope, Emily Pope, Elizabeth Hobby and Trevor Phillips, step-great-granddaughter, Madalyn Kilgo, and a godchild, Sean Michael Huckeba.
Bonnie Jean Allen was the daughter of the late Arnold Shaw and Louise Turk Allen of Monticello and grew up in Monticello, going from first grade to graduation at the old Monticello school that now serves as the Civic Center. After attending Mercer University she was married to the late Paul Bailey and their daughters were Cindy and Jean. For a time the family returned to Monticello where Jean was born and where Bonnie served a number of months as Monticello City Clerk.
She held a number of accounting positions in Atlanta before being named Operations Officer in the Atlanta office of Citicorp, retiring from that position in 1993 and returning to Monticello where she served for a time as a temporary staffer for the city.
She was an active member of the Monticello Garden Club, an avid supporter of the Jasper County Library and supporter of other local causes.
Jordan Funeral Home, 264 Hillsboro Street, Monticello, is in charge of arrangements.
