Several Charged with Underage Sale of Alcohol

Warrants were issued yesterday for the arrest of several individuals charged with the offense of selling alcohol to a minor.

As previously reported by The News, agents with the Georgia Department of Revenue (DOR), Alcohol and Tobacco Division made undercover buys at six locations in the county on December 15.

The locations were cited for the violation. In addition, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office is charging the individuals who are accused of making the sales. They include:

• Kevin Matthew Koshy of Kevin’s One Stop on Hwy. 83 south of Monticello.

•Garcia Estrada of Shane’s One Stop on Hwy. 142 in Farrar.

•Angela Maria Savage and Lara Beth Olson, both of D. J.’s Bar and Grill on Venture Court in Monticello.

•Casey Diane Smith of Frank’s Restaurant on Hwy. 212 near the Newton County line.

•Linda Akins Rivers of Lake View Restaurant on Jackson Lake Road.

Revenue agents also cited Larry’s 4-Way at Hwy. 212 and Jackson Lake Road, but no warrant has been issued at this time for that sale.

According to Chief Magistrate Judge Ken Jackson, the maximum penalty for the individuals charged is a $300 fine and six months to serve. They can also be ordered to attend DUI or drug use school.
The establishments involved have to appear before an administrative hearing with the DOR, and are subject to fines or license suspension.

Other arrests made by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office for the period December 18 through January 1, are as follows:

•Troy Gene Cannon, Monticello—child support.

•Michele Lynn Jackson, Shady Dale—speeding, driving while license suspended.

•Dwight Benard Buckner, Monticello—child support.

•Dwayne Edward Lewis, Monticello—simple battery pointing or aiming a gun at another.

•Christopher Travis Buckner, Monticello—assault, criminal damage to property.

•Lidio Caravajal Barrios, Shady Dale—driving with no license.

Also, during this same period the Monticello Police Department made the following arrests:

•Derrick Cornelus Andrews, Monticello—probation violation.

•Eugene Hardwick, Milledgeville—no tag, driving on a revoked license.

•Michael O’Neal Lyons, Shady Dale—public drunk, possession of drug related objects.

•Oliver Northous Jackson, Monticello—obstruction or hindering law enforcement officers, possession of marijuana less than one ounce.

•Grady Andre Thurman, Monticello—disorderly conduct.

•Ted Goolsby, Monticello—public drunkenness.

•Benjamin Lee Perkins, Monticello—DUI, improper tag, failure to maintain lane.

•Jamario Vontrez Roach, Monticello—DUI, no brake light.

•Alarcon Same Quezada, Monticello—disorderly conduct.

The MPD also made 176 calls for service during this period. They included 50 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, 17 subject needs officer, seven alarms, five persons refusing to leave, four accidents, two theft by taking, one each fight, music/noise complaint, and vandalism of property.

During this period the JCSO responded to 328 calls for service including 44 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, 15 theft by taking, 20 accidents, 17 alarms, nine burglary, six vandalism of property, four juvenile complaints, four fight, one hit and run, and one counterfeit.
