Man Charged with Forgery
An arrest warrant has been taken out by the Monticello Police Department for Kenneth James of a Monticello address charging him with forgery in the first degree, theft by taking and criminal trespass.
According to official records, the charges came as a result of Walter Smith of Smith & Sons Funeral Home, reporting to the MPD last Friday that on or about September 10, 18 checks were removed from his check book which was in an office desk drawer. Mr. Smith contacted the MPD after McIntosh State Bank informed him that 11 of the missing checks had been cashed at three different locations near or inside the city for a total $690.
All the checks were made out to Mr. James and with Mr. Smith’s signature forged on them which led to a warrant being issued.
