Middle School ‘Canes Lose

The Middle School ‘Canes lost their third straight game last Wednesday to Morgan County by a score of 26-0. In spite of the score, the team did put together two impressive offensive drives, even though neither resulted in a score.

Head Coach Mike Johnston singled out several players who excelled in the game including, QB Tony Davis, Deonte Norwood, Telvin Smith and Cordell Peacock.

Coach Johnston still has confidence in his team even with their 0-3 start. “We’ve got a ways to go, but our team has improved dramatically since the beginning of the year. And the three teams we’ve played—Greene, Social Circle and Morgan, are the three toughest teams we’ll have to face.

“We have Loganville, Youth Monroe, and Carver left. If we win out it will be a great advantage for us going into the playoffs.

“Part of our problem was that we started school later than our competitors so we haven’t been able to practice as long as they have. We’ve been slowly working everything in, making personnel and position changes, and I believe we’re close to having everything in place so we can begin to fine tune.

“I know we’re three weeks into the season, but it takes time. I really believe we’re getting better.”

The team was scheduled to play at Loganville late yesterday making it too late for the score to be reported by The News. Next Wednesday, Sept. 27, the team is scheduled to play Youth Monroe at home at 4:30 p.m.

The Junior Varsity ‘Canes had their last week’s game scheduled with GMC canceled due to unspecified reasons. They are still undefeated and are scheduled to play Putnam County today at Rose Bowl Field at approximately 4:30 p.m.
