Lady Cougars Win Two
The Nick Prezioso era is off to a good start for the Piedmont Academy fast-pitch softball team.
The Lady Cougars won both of their games in a tournament hosted by Gatewood last weekend.
Piedmont defeated Windsor 6-5 in its first game of 2006 and then handed Thomas Jefferson a 7-2 defeat.
In the opener against Windsor, Carrie Tucker went the distance and recorded the win. She recorded five strikeouts while allowing just three hits. Tucker also scored two runs in helping her own cause.
Also at the plate, Kirstie Lewis was 2-for-2 and drove in the winning run. Emily Beckham scored the winning run for the Lady Cougars.
In the second game of the tournament for Piedmont against Thomas Jefferson, Tucker once again recorded the win after going the distance. Tucker recorded another five strikeouts.
Randi Small was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate while Priscilla Jones scored two runs in the win.
The fast-pitch Lady Cougars will compete in a three-day tournament hosted by Windsor in Macon today, Friday and Saturday. Piedmont will play its home opener next Tuesday against Nathanael Greene at 4 p.m.
The Lady Cougar junior varsity softball team is also preparing for their 2006 season and will begin play next Tuesday against Nathan-ael Greene at 6 p.m.
