Piedmont Football Team Begins Practice
The Piedmont Academy football team returned to the practice field this week as preparations moved into a higher gear for the upcoming 2006 season.
A summer thunderstorm rolled through the area Monday which caused the humidity to be extremely high Monday evening, but Cougar head coach Danny Camp said the heat did not become a concern.
“We didn’t have any problems,” Camp said. “We give the players water breaks every 15 minutes. It’s always going to be tough practicing football in August.”
The heat factor has grabbed headlines across the state in recent days as a football player at Rockdale County High School in Conyers died during a pre-season workout from what appeared to be heat-related symptoms.
Piedmont has late afternoon practices scheduled for the remainder of this week including on-the-field workouts from 6-9 p.m. Thursday and Friday.
Camp said the team has approximately 30 players out for fall practice.
“Things are going well,” the coach said. “We will keep working and getting ready for the season.”
The Cougars open the 2006 season Sept. 1 against Nathanael Greene.
