James Hatcher

Committal services for James “Jimmy” T. Hatcher, 82, were held Monday, July 17 at West View Cemetery in Monticello. The Dr. John Brown officiated. Funeral services were held Sunday at Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church where the Revs. Nancy Scarbrough and Nathan Godley officiated.
He died July 13.

Mr. Hatcher was born in Dawson to the late Lloyd and Ruth Tweedy Hatcher. Since 1937 he had lived in Albany where he played football and graduated from Albany High School. He attended Gordon Military Academy and The University of Georgia where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity.

He was a WWII veteran and served in the Air Force as a B-25 tail gunner in Europe. He was also a retired finance manager with Motor Contract and Associates.

Mr. Hatcher was a member of Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church, the Alpha Sunday School Class, and served as an usher for many years. He was a member of the South Georgia Senior Golf Association, Benevolent and Protective Order of The Elks #713, and The Golden Key Kiwanis.
A sister, Mary Mosley, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Betty T. Hatcher of Albany; two sons, Jimmy Hatcher of Atlanta and Bubba Hatcher of Albany; brother, W.L. Hatcher of Atlantic Beach, Fl.; four grandchildren, Hunter Hatcher and Lauren Hatcher, both of Atlanta, Blaire Hatcher of Auburn, Al. and Mallory Hatcher of Albany; and a number of other relatives.
