Ralph Brown

Funeral services for Ralph “Sunny” Brown, 84, were held Saturday, June 17 at Springfield Baptist Church with a military burial in Concord Cemetery. The Rev. Johnny Mincy, Jr. officiated and Rev. Joe L. McKibbens provided the eulogy.
He died June 10.

Mr. Brown was born February 19, 1922 to the late Lady Brown Smith and Evens McDowell in Jasper County. He attended Jasper County public schools before entering the U.S. Army on November 10, 1942. He received an honorable discharge as Private First Class on February 10, 1946.
Mr. Brown was employed at Bibb’s Manufacturing Company until his retirement. When his health began to fail, he moved to Atlanta to live with his daughter.

He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.
Survivors include his best friend and mother of his three children, Mary Walker; children, Ethel Greene, Betty Brown, and Ralph Brown, Jr., Charlie T. Walker, Lucy “Lois” Booker, Willa Mae Smith, all of Atlanta, and Charles Walker of Detroit, Mich.; seven grandchildren, James Arthur, Mark, Shanna “Keisa,” Melissa, and Darrell; 12 great-grandchildren; two nephews; one aunt; and a number of cousins and friends.

Smith & Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
