Superior Court Civil Session Held

Monticello Police Chief Danny Norris was a no-show in the case of Jasper County Curbside against him when it was called during Jasper Superior Court Civil Motion day Tuesday, with Judge James L. Cline, Jr., presiding.

When the case first went to Superior Court, Chief Norris requested a jury trial. However, he later agreed to a settlement and paid the fine. The agreement was that he would pay half of the fine then and the other half at a later date. The second half has never been paid. According to a spokesman in the clerk’s office, he is now set for a bench trial.

The Rev. Grady Fuller’s lawsuit against the city of Monticello was on the calendar, however, when it was called the judge announced the case had been continued. Rev. Fuller’s lawsuit against the city was filed recently because the city denied his request to hook up electric power to a residence because it was not approved by the County Building Inspector.

The only criminal case resolved was against Thomas Jay West for violation of parole on the charge of possession of methamphetamine. Mr. West was sentenced to 12 months of intensive probation with the original fines and fees intact. Upon completion of intensive probation his probation will revert to original time.
