Cougars Continue Winning Ways
The winning streak is still going.
The Piedmont Academy varsity baseball team posted its eighth consecutive win Monday defeating region foe Edmund Burke 10-1.
Zack Kenny earned the win pitching six strong innings scattering five hits and striking out five. Kenny did not allow a walk in the game.
Randy Reagin set the tone for the contest with a homerun in the bottom of the first, his third of the spring. The Diamond Cougars added one run in the third, two more in the fourth, four more in the eighth and capped the game off with two addition runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Piedmont is now 8-4 overall after a slow start and is also a perfect 4-0 in Region 1-AA. The recent wins have pushed the team into the top five rankings for Class AA at No. 4.
“We are playing very well right now,” said coach Danny Camp. “It’s exciting to be on a winning streak like this. We haven’t had something like this for a few years. We want to keep it going.”
In Monday’s win, Cris Jackson was 2-for-4 with two RBIs while Joey Schroeder was 3-for-4.
Prior to Monday’s game, Piedmont defeated region foe Briar-wood 9-1 Saturday.
The Diamond Cougars scored eight runs in the first two innings and never allowed Briarwood a chance to be in the ball game.
Cris Jackson earned the win and improved to 2-1. In the victory, Cris Jackson went all seven innings, allowing just two hits and recorded six strikeouts. He only faced 28 batters in the game.
Offensively, Taylor Jackson was 2-for-3 with two runs scored while Cris Jackson helped his own cause with a 3-for-4 day at the plate. Reagin was 2-for-3 with a second-inning homerun along with a double and four RBIs. Clint Fields added a 2-for-3 day at the plate.

Camp’s team defeated Heritage, 4-3, in eight innings last Thursday at home. Trailing 3-0 going into the bottom of the sixth, the Diamond Cougars had to rally and managed to cut the lead to 3-2 going into the seventh frame.
After holding Heritage scoreless in the top half of the seventh, Piedmont tied the game on a single by Taylor Jackson which allowed Brent Brown to score. The Cougars had a chance to win the game but Schroeder was thrown out at home.
Heritage could not score in the top half of the eighth. In the bottom half, Cris Jackson would score the winning run when a throw to third on a double steal attempt went into the outfield.
“We found a way to win,” Camp said. “It was a big game. We had a big crowd there and we kept ourselves in the ball game and kept battling.”
Reagin was the winning pitcher while working in relief improving his mark to 3-1. Andrew Steven-son was the starting pitcher working the game’s first five innings.
Piedmont also defeated Nathan-ael Greene, 11-3, last Wednesday as Kenny earned the win working five innings and striking out six.
Cris Jackson worked the sixth inning and Stevenson pitched the seventh as Camp tries to get several pitchers game experience.
At the plate, Taylor Jackson and Cris Jackson were both 2-for-3 against the Patriots. Reagin was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Piedmont will host Monroe Academy today at 4 p.m. in a rescheduled game from Tuesday. The Cougars travel to Curtis Baptist for a 4 p.m. game Friday and to LaGrange Saturday for a 1:30 p.m. contest.
