Mrs. Kathryn Patton

Kathryn Cooper Dillard Patton, 87, of Due West Retirement Center died Sunday, Nov. 6 at The Hospice House in Greenwood, S.C.

Born in Statham, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Herbert Alva and Grace Cooper Dillard.
Mrs. Patton was a retired newspaper columnist with more than 25 years of service with The Monticello News and the Winder, Ga. News. She was awarded the annual Brumby Award as Newspaper Columnist of the Year in Georgia.

She was also very active with the Sue Kellogg Library of Stone Mountain. Mrs. Patton was also very active with the food bank in her local community. She also loved to do outdoor yard work and was a very avid gardener having raised many beautiful flower beds. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Winder.

Survivors include her husband, Paul Patton of the Due West Retirement Center; son, Edward E. Patton, of Abbeville, S.C., grandsons Brian Edward Patton, Capt. U.S. Army and Thomas Samuel Patton, a sophomore at Lander University in Greenwood, S.C.

She was preceded in death by a sister Martha (Jim) Dillard Fleming.

A memorial service will be conducted Sunday, Nov. 20, at 2 p.m. from the First Baptist Church in Stone Mountain with Dr. Dan Parker officiating.
