Joe Thomas Boykin, Jr.
Funeral services for Joe Thomas Boykin, Jr.,43, were held November 12 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with burial in the Church Cemetery. The Rev. Jimmy Horton officiated.
He died in the early hours of November 7 at his residence.
Mr. Boykin was born January 6, 1962 in Jasper County to Ruby Boykin and the late Joe Thomas, Sr. He was educated in the Jasper County School System and joined Zion Hill Baptist Church in Julliette at an early age.
Mr. Boykin was a self-employed independent contractor and carpenter. He was well-known for his love of western attire—cowboy hats, boots, and big belt buckles and—his carpentry work.
His father preceded him in death.
In addition to his mother, survivors include a brother, Michael Boykin; sisters, Mary Boykin, Theresa Boykin, Patricia Myrick, all of Monticello, Mary Clemons and Debbie Sands, both of Hillsboro; two uncles, four aunts and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Pallbearers were Clarence Miller, Eddie Carl Davis, Bobby Norris, Roy Lee Robinson, Jesse Hardwick, and Carl Pennamon.
Smith & Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
