High School Playoffs Continue
With 1:18 left on the clock last Friday night the Morgan County Bulldogs stopped a desperate attempt to tie the game by the Greater Atlanta
Christian Spartans when they intercepted a pass on their own 5 yard line.
GAC needed a touchdown to tie the game and started the drive from their own 20 yard line. It was quite a feat that the Spartans even had a chance to put the game into overtime, considering that they only had a total of 45 yards during the 2 minutes and 49 seconds they had the ball in the first half.
Trailing 17-0, with only 40 seconds left in the first half, the Spartans finally got on the board with a 48-yard field goal. The Spartans finally shut the Bulldogs down in the second half and cut
the deficit to 17-10 early in the fourth quarter. But the Bulldogs then went on a seven minute drive leaving the Spartans with just over three minutes to tie the game. They stuck mainly to passing and finished the game 14 of 25 for
162 yards, but fell short with the interception that ended the game with Morgan still leading 17-10.
The Bulldogs will advance in the playoffs this weekend when they travel to Calhoun, a team with a perfect record and who defeated Walker 41-7 last Friday night.
Greene Co. coasted to a 62-36 win over Wesleyan, scoring the most points they had scored in a single game this year, however, they also gave up the most points they had all year. This Friday night they will host Darlington (9-2) who beat Decatur 27-13 last week.
Westside-Augusta took an early exit from the playoffs when they were defeated by the ndefeated and no. 2 ranked Buford Wolves 35-6.
Laney prevailed by defeating East Hall 40-27 and will travel to Atlanta to play Grady (11-0), who defeated Rockmart 30-16 in the first round.
