Melvin Thomas, Sr.

Funeral services for Melvin Thomas, Sr., 79, were held October 30 at Kings Chapel Community Church with burial in the Church Cemetery. Pastor Gayle Middlebrooks officiated.

He died October 26 at Oconee Regional Medical Center in Milledgeville.

Mr. Thomas was born January 30, 1926 to the late Bradley Thomas, Sr. and Mattie Estell Glover Thomas. He joined Mt. Carmel Church at an early age and attended Jasper County Training School.
Mr. Thomas worked at Dexter Axle in Monticello in addition to doing concrete work with his brother Bradley, Jr. in Columbus, Ohio where he also worked on the Hoover Dam project.

He was an avid farmer and gardener who raised some of the best liked collard greens in Jasper County. A good hunter, he enjoyed raccoon hunting.
His brother, Roy Thomas, and sister, Mary Lois Alexander, both preceded him in death.
Survivors include a son, Melvin Thomas, Jr.; brother, Bradley Thomas, Jr. of Columbus, Ohio; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Smith & Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
