Joe B. Mattison
Joe Branson Mattison, 70, died Friday, October 14, at Newton General Hospital in Covington.
“Mr. Joe” was a native of Abbeville, S.C. He lived in Macon for a number of years before moving to Monticello in 1971. His parents were the late John Crevan Mattison and Lucille Beasley Mattison.
He served in the National Guard; was a member of the Monticello Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge #50 F&AM, Jaycees and Chamber of Commerce. He retired as co-owner and manager of the Monticello Red & White Grocery Store.
His son, Robert Brent Mattison and grandson, Eric Christopher Mattison preceded him in death.
Survivors include his children, Greg Mattison, Cindy Childers, Chip Mattison and Andy Mattison, all of Monticello; grandchildren, Jessica Blackwell, Joshua Mattison, Joseph Mattison, Tiffany Mattison, Brent Mattison, Crystal Cummings and Amanda Jo Ross; great-grandchildren, Payton Harwood, Morgan Blackwell, Lance Blackwell and Brianna Jo Ledford; and sister and brother, Katie Grier and James Mattison, both of Abbeville, S.C.
The family will receive friends at Jordan Funeral Home on Hillsboro Street in Monticello on Saturday, Oct. 15, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services are scheduled for Sunday, October 16, at 3 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church, with burial in West View Cemetery. The Rev. Charles Roper will officiate. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Bethlehem Baptist Church, 4430 Jackson Lake Rd., Monticello, GA 31064.
Pallbearers are Joshua Mattison, Joseph Mattison, Brent Mattison, Ben Tillman, Robert Ledford and Ryan Cummings.
Honorary pallbearers are Benny Bostick, Jerry Cape, Kenneth Tillman, Charles Bramlett and J.O. Turner.
Jordan Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
