Steven John Mowczko
Steven John Mowczko, 83, of Mansfield, died Tuesday, April 5, at Portsbridge Hospice.
Funeral services for Mr. Mowczko were held Friday, April 8, at New Rocky Creek Baptist Church, with the Rev. Randy Reese officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Flowers are acceptable, however donations may be made to New Rocky Creek Baptist Church, 190 Rocky Creek Road, Mansfield, Ga., 30055
Formerly of Lawrenceville, he had lived in Mansfield for the past six years. Mr. Mowczko was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds he received in action in France.
He helped develop fiber optic technology and was sent to Georgia from New York by Lucent Technologies to give instructions on how to make fiber optic cables.
Mr. Mowczko was an avid fisherman, enjoyed taking things apart to see how they worked and he loved wood carving.
Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Doug and Sue Mowczko of St. Louis, Mo., Brian and Peggy Mowczko of Buffalo, N.Y., special friend, Marie White of Mansfield; stepchildren, Ronnie White of Loganville, Dale White of Oxford, Mel White of Stockbridge, Rose Cash of Mansfield, Alice Daniel of Covington, Mark White of Camden, Tenn., Matt White of Mansfield, Wanda Spriggs of Ft. Worth, Tex., six grandchildren, three sisters, Marianne, Kitty and Anna, and a brother, Michael.
Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home in Covington was in charge of arrangements.
