Cougars Lose to Monroe
The Piedmont Academy tennis teams fell to Monroe Academy Tuesday.
The boys fell 4-1 with the No. 1 doubles team of Rob Wynens and Neil Gilbert taking an 8-4 victory. Piedmont was swept in singles play as Blake McMichael fell at No. 1 singles (8-1), Ryan Young dropped his match at No. 2 singles (8-1) and T.J. Cooper fell at No. 3 singles (8-0).
It was also a tough day for the Lady Cougars who were swept 5-0 by Monroe. Jennifer Mobley lost at No. 1 singles 8-1 while Carrie Tucker lost 8-2 at No. 2 singles.

In doubles play, Bryn McDermott and Martha Powell fell 8-4 while Kayla Landreau and Miranda Powell lost 8-1.
Last Thursday, the Piedmont tennis teams faced rival Gatewood. The Lady Cougars fell 4-1 with Sara Wagnon winning 8-1 at No. 2 singles.
Mobley lost 8-1 in No. 1 singles play while Tucker dropped an 8-4 decision at No. 3.
In doubles play, Allison Hirsch and McDermott and Martha Powell and Miranda Powell both lost 8-4.
McMichael earned an 8-6 win at No. 1 singles for the Piedmont boys against Gatewood. Young fell 8-5 at No. 2 singles.
Wynens and Gilbert fell 8-0 at No. 1 doubles while Cooper and Isaac Abbott fell 8-3 in No. 2 doubles action.
The regular season is now complete for the Piedmont tennis squads. Coach Chip Champion said the region tournament is scheduled for Monday, April 11, at 9 a.m. in Augusta at the Newman Tennis Center.
