‘Canes Suffer Two Losses

The varsity ‘Canes traveled to Augusta last Wednesday, March 23, and lost to Westside, 18-3. Two of the ‘Canes three runs were knocked in when catcher Caleb Reynolds hit a triple. The other RBI was the result of a single by Matt Hyde. Rett Bullard had the only other ‘Cane hit.

On Friday, March 25 the team took on Putnam at home and lost again—9-4. It was the first time the ‘Canes ever lost to this team with Coach Doug Huff at the helm.

The ‘Canes held the lead through the first three innings, but let it slip away as they committed a season-high number of errors. Alex Jordan led the way offensively by going three for four with two RBI’s. Brian Anderson went one for four, J.C. Dunagan went one for two, and Mark Pierce was one for three.

Coach Huff said, “Anderson and Dunagan pitched well enough to win, but we just couldn’t make the routine plays. We just have to keep practicing and keep playing, and we’ll win.”

On Tuesday, March 29, the team made the long trip to Augusta again for a game scheduled against Josey, only to have to turn around and return home with clean uniforms because the umpires failed to appear.

Their next game is tomorrow, April 1, vs. Greene at home with a 6:30 p.m. start following a JV home game at 4:30 p.m. On Tuesday, April 5, they play another home game vs. Laney at 4:30 p.m., then go on the road Wednesday, April 6, to play Northeast at 4:30 p.m.
