Horsemanship Clinic Is Planned
Jody Cunningham, of Grapeland, Texas will be in Shady Dale, the fourth weekend in October—October 22, 23 and 24—to conduct a horsemanship clinic outlining the 10 steps to determine if your horse is truly broke.
This three-day clinic consists of a series of partnering exercises YOU will be taught to perform with your horse.
Mr. Cunningham was featured in the this months edition of the Western Horseman magazine outlining these important steps.
The clinic is being held at The Wright Place, on Ross Road off of Hwy. 142. Call 706-468-0266 for details and directions.
Clinic hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday with an hour break for lunch.
The cost for this three day clinic will be $400. This clinic is limited to the first 15 people that apply, and slots are going quickly.

The clinic will consist of instruction that is progressive from the first day until the last, so participants are encouraged not to miss Friday’s introductory lessons. “You will not be able to ‘catch up’ with the class on Saturday,” organizer said.
The event will be held rain or shine. Organizers are hoping the weather will be agreeable, but tell participants to bring their raincoats just in case.
Participants are asked to “please bring a horse (mare or gelding) that has had at least 90 days of riding/training, this is not a colt breaking clinic.” All riders will “ride at your own risk.”
An important requirement is that a current Coggins is required for your horse at the time of signup.
At the time of signup you will be asked to sign a release of responsibility for your own safety. The Wright Place will not be held accountable for accidents occurred on the property.
There are no electric hookups for trailers/RVs at this time. We hope to provide this for future events.
For those who do not wish to tie their horses to their trailers at night, panels will be available for $5 per night to provide your horse with a portable stall.
Spectators are welcome, and a $5 donation will be requested at the gate. (Bring your own chair; there is no grand stand seating). Mr. Cunningham will be available for a short question/answer session for spectator’s questions directly after each clinic.
A concession stand will be on the grounds serving breakfast, lunch items and soft drinks throughout the day. Proceeds from the concession stand and the gate will be donated to the benefit for Tom Petrow of Covington, who is having a pancreas/kidney transplant.
Visitors will have the chance to see “Rocky”, a Quarter Horse gelding that has been donated for this benefit. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase for $5 each for those who would like to win a horse of their own.
You will find the ‘group format’ of this clinic lends itself to a feeling of team building with the other participants while learning new ways to partner with your horse.
We hope you will be able to join us for this exciting clinic and a weekend of fun and education, organizers said. “Your horse will love you for it.”
