War Eagles Sweep Hurricanes
It was a clean sweep for the Putnam County War Eagles Saturday as they claimed victories in four consecutive games against the Hurricanes.
The junior varsity squads fought through losses to the War Eagles. The JV Lady ‘Canes, now 1-2 for the season, were defeated by the Lady War Eagles. No individual statistics were available.
The JV Gentleman ‘Canes are 2-1 following a 61-33 loss. Josh Campbell led the scoreboard with 8 points; Whichard Standifer, 8; Alvin Bailey and Alton Standifer, 4 each; Michael Cook, 3; Brandon Hamm, Cortez Dudley, and Zaybo Jackson, 2 each; Horace Shivers, 1.

The JV squads will take a hiatus over the Christmas holidays before returning to action Jan. 3.
The varsity squads didn’t fair much better than their younger counterparts. The Lady Hurricanes racked up another loss—their second thus far. The Lady War Eagles triumphed 68-47 despite senior Traci Glawson scoring 35 points.
Lady ‘Canes head coach Dionka Davis will try to direct her ladies toward repeating their success at the annual Security Bank of Jones Christmas tournament beginning today, Dec. 18 with a 4 p.m. game.
A win today would have the squad playing Saturday, Dec. 20 at 7 p.m. while a loss would put their playing time at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
The ‘Canes fell 51-46 to Putnam Saturday, a much smaller margin than female counterparts.
“We put ourselves in a position to win and we didn’t. But every game we’re improving—that’s all I can ask for right now,” said head coach Steve Spruell.
TJ Glawson led the scoring with 13 points; Coddy Carter had 9; Damien Tripp, 7; Antonio McGuire, 6; Kyle Davis, 5; Arlandos Grier, Thaxton Penn-amon, and Neil Andrews, 2 each.
The ‘Canes will open the Christmas tournament on Friday, Dec. 19 with a 4 p.m. tip off against Dublin High School.
A win would have them returning Saturday for a 5:30 p.m. game against the winner of the Thomas-ville/Washington County competition. A Friday loss would allow them to the play at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Following this week’s tournament the varsity squads will take a break from action until Jan. 3 when they travel to Spalding High School.
