Margaret Gude Smith
Funeral services for Margaret Ann Gude Smith, 90, were held November 29 at Greenwood Baptist Church with burial in the Shady Dale Cemetery. The Rev. Jimmy Smith officiated.
She died November 22.
Mrs. Smith was born November 27, 1912 in Putnam County. She joined Mt. Gilead Baptist Church in 1927 and moved her membership to Greenwood Baptist Church in 1931.
Her favorite saying, “I will serve Him ’til I die,” was a testament to her active involvement in the church and community.
She was active in her church with the senior choir, senior missionary, and as the mother board treasurer. Mrs. Smith was also a representative for the Women’s Missionary Sick Committee and Jasper County Cancer Drive, secretary of Emancipation Club, member of Jasper County Care Corp, attendant for voter registration poll in Shady Dale, and a member of Shiloh Burial Society.
She had been a dedicated member of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 100 since 1942. Her last position held was as Worthy Matron.
Her husband, Willie, and son, Arthur James Smith, preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons, Edward Marks and Jimmy Smith; daughter, Margaret Elaine McDowell; sister, Julia M. Derrick; 17 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and friends.
Smith & Sons Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
