‘Micky’ Smith

A memorial service for Michele “Micky” Smith, 82, of Eatonton was scheduled October 29, at the Vining Ivy Hill Chapel in Eatonton, with visitation to follow.

Mrs. Smith was publisher for the Eatonton Messenger, which she and her husband, Battle Smith, bought in 1956. She had worked there until about two months ago, according to reports. Mr. Smith died in 1988.

“She knew that the newspaper was the watchdog of that community down there, and she took that role seriously,” said Gary Jones, an editor at the Eatonton Messenger from 1990 to 1996.
