JV Cougars Defeat Monroe Academy

The Piedmont Academy junior varsity football team earned another win last Thursday as the Cougars defeated Monroe Academy 27-0.

Piedmont took control of the contest immediately and held a 27-0 halftime lead. Coach Chip Champion used the game as an opportunity to get all of his players plenty of work.

“Our defense played very strong,” Champion said. “We played sloppy late in the game with some penalties. Without those, I don’t think Monroe had positive yardage.”

Christopher Hornibrook scored two touchdowns for the JV Cougars. Hornibrook also kicked the team’s first extra point of the season. Previously, the team traditionally went for two points after scores.

Justin Atkins also scored two touchdowns for Piedmont in last week’s win, and D.J. Allen added a two-point conversion.

Champion’s team, who is now 4-1-1 overall, will host Fullington today at 6 p.m. in the final home game of the 2003 season. The JV Cougars will travel to Gatewood next week for the final regular season contest.

“If we continue to play the way we have the last couple of weeks, we should be in good shape,” the coach said.
