John Whitlow
Funeral services for John Lewis Whitlow, 84, were held Saturday at St. James A.M.E. Church with burial in South View Cemetery. Services were held in conjunction with his grandson, Tyrone Scott Dennis. The Rev. Grady Head officiated.
Mr. Whitlow died September 16.
Mr. Whitlow was born May 3, 1919 in Lafayette, Ala. to Buila Whitlow of Chattanooga, Tenn. and the late Ernest Whitlow. He met and married Marie Henderson and together they moved to Monticello 60 years ago. He was an active member of Philadelphia Baptist Church and later faithfully attended Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
Mr. Whitlow worked at Feldspar Corporation for many years before his retirement.
In addition to his father he was preceded in death by six children, Carolyn Whitlow, Johnnie Frank Whitlow, Lucious Whitlow, Mattie Bell Whitlow, Joe Whitlow and Charlene Davis.
In addition to his mother and wife survivors include two sons, Eddie Whitlow of Detroit, Mich. and Michael Whitlow of Dalton; two daughters, Annie Ruth Dennis of Monticello and Deborah Harde-man of Covington; two sisters, Lillian Kate Ware of Opelika, Ala. and Mary Julia West of Atlanta; 38 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were Eddie Brown, Rudell Jackson, Joe Benton, Lonnie Beasly, Albert Pennamon, Buddy Ellison, Albert Sands, and Albert Gantt.
Smith & Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
