The Monticello Lady Hurricanes continued their domination of the 7AA region with recent wins over Morgan and Greene county squads.
The local ladies defeated the 2001 region champions Friday, 55-46, on the road. The momentum of the game often swung back-and-forth between the Lady ‘Canes and Bulldogs.
Junior Traci Glawson was the leading scorer with 19 points; Akeila Tripp had 15; Abbie Jackson, 9; Chelsea Standifer, 6; Yakia Tripp, 5; and Susanna Tripp, 1.
The ladies made another road trip Saturday to Milledgeville where they soundly defeated G.M.C. 40-15. Glawson scored 17 points; A. Tripp, 13; Standifer and Brittney Jackson, 4 each; A. Jackson, 2.
Tuesday’s 56-37 win over Greene County makes the squad currently undefeated in the region with eight regular season remaining. Glawson scored 24 points; A. Tripp, 12; sisters Jackson totaled 12 points, Brittney had 7 and Abbie; Y. Tripp, 4; Standifer and Kenikeral Waller, 2 each.
The Gentleman Hurricanes added two losses and one win to their season record. The varsity squad fell to Morgan before defeating G.M.C. on the road last weekend and loss to Greene Tuesday.
Next up for the varsity squads will be a three-game home streak beginning with Putnam tomorrow, Jan. 24; Washington-Wilkes, Saturday, Jan. 25; and Hancock, Tuesday, Jan. 28. Varsity action tips-off at 6 p.m. in the high school gym.
