Mamie ‘Big Momma’ Epps
Funeral services for Mamie ‘Big Momma’ M. Epps, 100, were held Saturday at St. James A.M.E. Church. The Elder A. F. Eusery officiated.
She died December 17.
Mrs. Epps was born January 2, 1902 to the late Wallace and Suddie McDowell. She was educated in Jasper County and was homemaker. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and Philadelphia Baptist Church, where she served until her health began to fail.
Her husband, Freeman Epps, Sr., and four children Freeman Epps, Jr., James Epps, Clara Sue Epps and Walter Epps, all preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were four sisters, six brothers and several grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughters, Laura Catchings of Monticello and Christine Key of Covington; sons, Willie Flynn Lynch of Monticello and Wallace “Shine” Epps of Decatur; sister, Lois Minter of Monticello; 38 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; 28 great, great-grandchildren; one great, great, great grandchild; and a number of other relatives and friends.
Catchings Memorial Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
