Horace Hardwick

Funeral services for Horace “HG” Grant Hardwick, Sr. were held Saturday at White Chapel C.M.E. Church in Hillsboro with burial in New Community Cemetery. The Rev. R. O’neil officiated.
He died at the VA Medical Center on December 10.
Mr. Hardwick was born August 22, 1925 to the late John Thurman and Matildea Hardwick. He joined White Chapel C.M.E. at an early age and served in the United States Army before receiving an honorable discharge. He retired from the Jasper County Board of Education.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille Hardwick of Monticello; two daughters, Ida Bell Driskell of Monticello and Martha Willis of Madison; 10 sons, Horace Hardwick, Jessie Hardwick, Don-ald Hardwick, Leroy Hardwick, James Hardwick, Ruben Hard-wick, Charles Hardwick, David Hardwick, Robert Hardwick, all of Monticello; six sisters, Bertha Spikes and Bessie Briscoe, both of Kingston, N.C., Essie Ruff and Emma Hopper of Shelby, N.C., Betty White of Ft. Gain, and Annie Dwhinont of Laundale, N.C.; four brothers, R.B. Hardwick of Ft. Gain, Willie Thurman of Kingstown, N.C., John Rook of Monticello, and Ulysses Thurman of Shelby, N.C.; 18 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and friends.
