JV Cougars Beat Flint River, 40-26
The Piedmont Academy junior varsity football team put on a scoring display in its 40-26 road win against Flint River.
The JV Cougars, who are now 3-1-1 overall, played their best of the season offensively. Piedmont and Flint River had actually played to a 6-6 tie earlier this fall.

“We finally decided we wanted to block and it showed,” coach Chip Champion said.
“It was a wild game. We scored 30 points in our first game of the season (against Monroe Academy), but we had struggled some since then on offense. It was great to see us do so well.”
Justin Atkins had a big day for the JV Cougars with three scores and approximately 175 yards rushing. Atkins got things going for Piedmont on a 50-yard touchdown run on the Cougars’ initial possession of the game.
Piedmont led 16-0 early before Flint River got on the board and cut the lead to 16-6. The JV Cougars simply had too much offense on this day, however. Right before halftime Christopher Hornibrook connected with D.J. Allen on a 55-yard halfback pass for another score.
Atkins scored the final time for Piedmont on a 40-yard run in the final seconds.
“That game shows just how good we can be if everything is clicking,” Champion said.
The Piedmont Academy junior varsity football team will host Monroe Academy today at 6 p.m.
The game will be homecoming for the JV program.
