Dennis Jackson

Funeral services for Dennis Jackson of Monticello were held Monday at St. John C.M.E. Church with burial in South View Cemetery. The Rev. Bobby J. Hall, Sr. officiated.
He died October 9.

Mr. Jackson was born April 30, 1913 in Jasper County as the fourth of five children to the late Columbus Jackson and Cora Standifer. He was educated in the Jasper County School System before moving to Florida at an early age.

In 1942, he married the late Helen Dixon. He served in World War II before being honorably discharged and retired from CSX Railroad Transportation. Mr. Jackson was an active member of New Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Trilby, Fla.

When his health began to fail he moved back to Monticello to live with his niece, Barbara Goins. He then became a resident at the Retreat Nursing Home where he was affectionately called “Buck.”
Survivors include his daughter, Betty Ross of Louisville, Ky.; nieces, Barbara Goins of Monticello and Dorothy Jackson of Hartford, Conn.; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Smith & Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
