Mary Rearden Polk
Mary Rearden Polk, 71, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, at Rockdale Hospital in Conyers.
Mrs. Polk was a native of Chambers County, Ala. She lived in Brunswick before moving to Monticello in 1943. She was a member of the Monticello First United Methodist Church and a former choir member. She was treasurer for the Friends of the Library. She played in many bridge clubs in Monticello for more than 50 years.
Before retirement, she worked as office manager for Dr. Corbitt Kelly. She also worked as office manager for the Monticello Manufacturing until its closing. Her husband, Donald Eugene Polk, preceded her in death 25 years ago.
Survivors include a daughter, Dr. Donna Marie Polk of Atlanta; brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Ethel Rearden of Gray; sister and brother-in-law, Bobbie and Francis Aaron of Stone Mountain; and a number of other relatives and friends.
A graveside memorial service was held Saturday, Jan. 31, at West View Cemetery. The Rev. David Brackman and Lamar Crawley officiated.
Honorary pallbearers were Jack Yearwood, Lanier Ozburn, Herbert Hickey, James Sauls, Frank Aaron, James Foy Rearden, III, and the bridge club members.
The family suggests memorials to the Friends of the Library, 319 E. Greene St., Monticello, GA 31064.
Jordan Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
