Mat Cougars Prepare for Postseason

The Piedmont Academy wrestling team is preparing for the postseason.

The Mat Cougars, who will compete in the GISA state tournament Feb. 7, defeated Hidden Lakes last Saturday 29-24. Blake Anglin earned a win at 140 pounds while C.J. Eidson, Ryan Young, Rob Wynens and Andrew Stevenson won by forfeit.

Piedmont also hosted Eagles Landing last Saturday. Young earned a 7-5 win and remained undefeated this season. Anglin (140) and Stevenson (171) both earned pins but Eagles Landing still managed a team win.

“The wrestlers are doing well,” said Mat Cougars coach Darrell Young. “They are working hard for state and we are looking forward to competing.”

The Piedmont Academy wrestling team will host Riverside and Southland Saturday at 11 a.m. The team will then prepare for the state tournament Feb. 7 at Riverside.

“You work all season for the state tournament,” Young said. “I believe our wrestlers will be ready.
