Basketball Play-offs Are Near

The varsity Hurricanes prepare to round the final corner before the 7AA region play-offs begin Tuesday, Feb. 10 in a location yet to be determined.

Lady ‘Canes head coach Dionka Davis said the girls’ bracket would be close with rankings to be determined after the regular season concludes tomorrow. The squad is currently 6-7 after close losses to Oglethorpe on Friday and Morgan on Tuesday. They earned a two-point victory Saturday over Wilkinson.

“The teams competing for the fourth, fifth, and sixth slots almost have identical records which won’t be determined until after Friday.”

Play-offs will be held Tuesday-Wednesday, Feb. 10-11 and Thursday-Friday, Feb. 12-13 at the first and third place seeds.

Angie Barron led the scoring Tuesday with 12 points; Brittney Jackson, Traci Glawson, and Nikki Kelly, each had 11 points; Susanna Tripp, 6; and Angilette Barron, 2.

The Gentleman ‘Canes add three region losses to their record. The squad was defeated 54-48 at Oglethorpe. Damien Tripp scored 13 points; Coddy Carter, 12; Thaxton Pennamon, 11; Kyle Davis, 5; Antonio McGuire, 4; and Marcus Clemons, 3.

Wilkinson County came to town Saturday defeating the ‘Canes 71-28. Tripp had 13 points; Davis, 7; TJ Glawson, 3; Pennamon and McGuire, 2 each.
Morgan County won 67-50 on Tuesday. Pennamon scored 11 points; Glawson, 9; Arlandos Grier, 8; Tripp, McGuire, and Carter, 6 each; and Clemons, 4.

The squads will host Greene County for Senior Night on Friday and travel to Jones County Saturday for the last regular season game. Junior varsity actions begins at 4 p.m. and varsity at 7 p.m. both nights.
