7-8 Year Old Ball Tournament Set
Monticello/Jasper County has been selected for the first time as the host of the 2004 AA Dixie Youth Pee Wee Division State Championship Tournament.
After placing a bid to host the event, Jasper County was selected based on its central location. The tournament will begin Saturday, July 10 and run through Saturday, July 17 at the Jasper County Recreation Department. Games begin at 10 a.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.
Saturday gate admission is $5 for adults, $4 for children ages 6-12, and children under six years old are free. All gate prices are $1 less on Sunday.

Sixteen teams that have won their district tournaments will be spending the week in Monticello to compete in the double elimination tournament. Those teams selected represent the best seven and eight-year-olds throughout the state that compete under the Dixie Youth regulations.
In the past, the statewide tournament has drawn youth from areas as far reaching as Leesburg, Swainsboro, Albany, Dacula, Duluth, Gwinnett and Macon. This event is an excellent opportunity for Jasper County to showcase its charms to first time visitors.
Coaches, players and parents will need food and other items or services that can be provided by Jasper County merchants. Merchants may want to extend hours of operation in order to accommodate the influx of visitors in the area. Extended hours will also give spectators the chance to shop locally.
Players for our home team, the Jasper County All Stars, were recently announced.
Team members are Corey Benedict, Terrence Brown, Chase Caron, Payden Cantera, Traquavious Jackson, Mondrez Jacobs, Walt McMichael, Logan Partenza, James Sampson, Mills Smith, Zach Beggs, Malcolm Tyler, and Dustin Womack.
Coaching the All Stars are head coach Patrick Womack, Greg McMichael, and Donald Tyler.
Everyone is encouraged to show their support for the local team as well as the community by placing an ad in the tournament program.
Ads can be purchased at the Monticello-Jasper County Chamber of Commerce until Wednesday, June 23.
Ad prices are $15 business card size, $25 for 1/4 page, $40 for a half page and $75 for a full page.
