JV Cougars Have Problems
The Piedmont Academy junior varsity basketball team fell 36-13 to Gatewood Tuesday on the road. A poor showing in the second half for the JV Cougars proved to be the difference.
Piedmont trailed just 15-10 at halftime, but was outscored 21-3 in the third and fourth quarters. Kale Blackshear paced the Cougars with six points.
“We didn’t play well,” said coach Danny Camp. “They pressed us and we didn’t do a good job of breaking it. We have to continue to get better in all areas. The players know that and are working to improve.”
The Piedmont junior varsity teams will be at home today and Friday against Flint River and Briarwood. Games begin at 3:30 p.m. each day.
The sixth-seventh grade boys basketball team got a 29-point performance from Matthew Powell Monday in a 38-35 loss to Brentwood.
“It was a good game,” Camp said. “It was the best game our sixth-seventh grade team has played this season. We played tough on defense and were aggressive on offense.”
The sixth-seventh grade boys also fell to Gatewood last Saturday 23-18. Powell, a seventh grader, once again was the leading scorer with 11 points.
The junior varsity Lady Cougars fell to Gatewood 42-17 Tuesday in their first game since Christmas.
“After not playing for three weeks our fundamentals weren’t there,” said coach Leigh Ann Champion. “It will take some time to get back to where we were before Christmas.”
