Quitman Luke
Quitman Luke, 91, died early Wednesday, Dec. 14, at Newton General Hospital in Covington.
Mr. Luke was born in Irwin County, and he moved to Jasper County 40 years ago after living in Chiefland, Fla. His parents were the late Lucius Luke and Narcissus Harper Luke.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the Monticello Presbyterian Church and an elder. Mr. Luke retired from Georgia Pacific after 35 years of service. After retirement, he owned and operated the Monticello Trading Post.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Elizabeth Biggers Luke of Monticello; children, Ralph Luke of Plano, Texas, Joyce Wallace of Monticello and Faye Lucas of Wildwood, Mo.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great- grandchild.
Funeral services were held Friday, December 16, at Monticello Presbyterian Church, with burial in West View Cemetery. The Rev. Phillip Dennis officiated.
Serving as pallbearers were Mr. Luke’s nephews and Dan Edge.
