Dean Crocker
Alvin “Dean” Crocker, 76, of Rock Hill, S.C., former pastor of Monticello Baptist Church died Thursday, Jan. 5 at his home.
A native of Spartanburg, S.C., Mr. Crocker was the son of the late L.F. Crocker and Carrie Walker Crocker.
A memorial service was held Sunday, Jan. 8, at Neely’s Creek ARP Church in Rock Hill, with the Rev. Jan Senneker officiating and the Rev. Denny Hieber assisting.
Mr. Crocker attended Furman University and was a graduate of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Besides serving as minister at Monticello Baptist Church from 1964 to 1978, he had served as pastor of Hopewell Baptist Church in Jasper County and Senoia Baptist Church in Senoia.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. After retirement, he worked with Daniel Construction and Reliance Electric. He was owner of Neely’s Creek Enterprises. He was a member of the Commodore Computer Club and an honorary member of the DAR.
He ran the bulletin board for Winthrop University and was a photographer for The Herald. He served as photographer for Jasper County public schools for many years. He was a seamstress and master builder and a charter member of the Rexall Coffee Club in Monticello. He was involved with the Rock Hill High School Class of 1946. He was a member of Neely’s Creek ARP Church.
Survivors include his wife, Louise M. Crocker; a son, Ken Crocker and his wife, Charlene; three daughters, Cindy Roper and husband, Marvin, Lisa Prevatt and husband, Ben, all of Monticello; and Mary K. Byrdic and husband, Frank, of Rock Hill; a brother, Charles Crocker of Asheville, N.C.; grandchildren, Shannon Roper, Michael Roper, Erin Roper, Amanda Johnson and husband, Bubba; Than Crocker, Ginny Shelton and husband, Matt; Hannah Byrdic and Bonnie Byrdic; and his great-grandchildren, Laya Hieber, Callie Halliday, and Makenzie Johnson. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jami Jackson.
