Mrs. Dorothy F. Cowan

Mrs. Dorothy Fincher Cowan, 80, of Monticello, died Wednesday, Jan. 11. Mrs. Cowan was a longtime resident of Newton County and was a member of Julia A. Porter Uunited Methodist Church.

She enjoyed being with her family and doing crossword puzzles.

Mrs. Cowan retired from Tri-County Livestock in 1991 where she worked as their bookkeeper. She is preceded in death by her husband, Walter L. “Pete” Cowan, Jr. and parents, Charles and Clara Fincher.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in law, Suzanne and Mike Lindsey of Monticello; son, Walter Livingston Cowan, III, of Monticello; grandchildren: Daniel Hinkelman, Denise Clegg, Michael Lindsey, Phillip Clegg; sisters, Joyce Sellars of Covington and Hazel Shook of Eatonton.

A memorial service is planned for Mrs. Cowan on Saturday, January 14. The service will be held in the chapel of Wheeler Funeral Home at 1 p.m.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m. prior to the memorial service. The Rev. Phillip Dennis will officiate. Interment will follow at Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery.
