L. Hubert Paschal

Lloyd Hubert Paschal, 80, died Tuesday, January 17, at Jasper Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 20, at 2 p.m. at the Monticello Baptist Church, with burial in West View Cemetery. Dr. Kerry Bunn will officiate.

Mr. Paschal was named Jasper County School Superintendent in 1973, and served until his retirement in 1988. Before being named superintendent, he taught agriculture at Jasper County High School from 1955-1973.

Before Mr. Paschal moved to Jasper County in 1955, he taught at Dearing High School in McDuffie County and Tignall High School in Wilkes County.

He was a deacon at the Monticello Baptist Church, and was a member of the American Legion Post #110. He was a member of the Monticello Kiwanis Club for many years. Mr. Paschal served during World War II in the Army as a First Lieutenant.

Mr. Paschal was born in Columbia County, to the late Lloyd Lee and Annie Laurie Griffin Paschal. He graduated from the University of Georgia, with a bachelor of science/agriculture, masters/ agricultural education, masters/education and six year Specialist/education.

His brother, Ray Paschal, and sister, Elsie Thornton, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Gaulden Paschal of Monticello; sons and daughter-in-law, L.H. “Hugh” Paschal, Jr. of Eastman and Carl E. and Cathy A. Paschal of St. Simons; grandchildren, Justin Paschal, Jarrett Paschal, Christopher Paschal and Cole Paschal; and brothers and sisters, William Paschal, Ellen Thomas, Lee Paschal and Laurie Pearson, all of Appling, and James Howard Paschal of Martinez.
Pallbearers will be Justin Paschal, Jarrett Paschal, Larry Smith, Cal McElheney, Charles Brock, Ed Burrell, Nixon McWilliams, Joe McMichael and Robert McMichael.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Monticello Baptist Church deacons, Adult 5 Sunday School Class, and golfing buddies Hugh Brock, Hugh Lewis, Billy Nalls, Billy Connelly, Weyman Mercer, Crawford Ezell, Orian Moore, Bob Eaton, Jim Hennessy, Frank Pool, Herb Hickey, Dean Rabitsch, Gene Kelly, Dewey Rozar and Fred Armistead.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today, Jan. 19, at Jordan Funeral Home.

The family suggests donations to the Monticello Baptist Church 334 W. Green St., Monticello, GA 31064 or Jasper Memorial Hospital, 898 College St., Monticello, GA 31064 in lieu of flowers.
Jordan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
