James C. Pope
James Clovis Pope, 79, of Shady Dale, died Tuesday, Jan. 10, at Newton General Hospital in Covington.
“Dude” Pope was a lifelong resident of Jasper County. His parents were the late Jobe Loren Pope and Myrtice McMichael Pope. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Pope worked for Franklin Veneer for a number of years and retired from Jasper County where he worked in the Public Works Department (PWD) as a mechanic. He enjoyed fishing.
His wife, Alma Pauline Kelly Pope; daughter, Jeanette Pope Singley; sister, Winnell P. Minter; and brother, Bobby Pope, all preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 13, at the chapel of Jordan Funeral Home, with burial in Shiloh Baptist Church cemetery in Newborn. The Rev. Danny Sorrells will officiate.
Survivors include his children, Wayne Pope of Milledgeville, Ralph Pope, Kathy Jones and Marie Pope, all of Monticello, Kenneth Pope of Madison, Wendell Pope of Griffin and Janice Childers of Elberton; grandchildren, Hannah Pope, Emily Pope, Robert Pope, Mary Pauline Pope, Kevin Matthew Pope, Keith Green, Chris Sprayberry, Aaron Sprayberry, Chad Morris, Vanessa Childers, Michelle Childers, Melissa Dawn Bassett, Bretteny Anne Jones, Melinda Beth Pope and Christopher Adam Helms.
Also, great-grandchildren, Justin Booth, Summer Bassett, Hannah Bassett, Destiny Fergerson, Kaitlyn Pope, Kristin Hill and Isabella Childers; and brothers and sisters, Bill Pope and Glenn Pope, both of Eatonton, Jake Pope, Lonnie Pope, Connie Pope, Linda Branyan, and Jane Hulsey, all of Monticello and Gloria Henderson of Mansfield.
Jordan Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
