MMS Canes Lose in Overtime; Two Named All-Tournament
The Monticello Middle School Hurricanes had their 2005 basketball season conclude last Wednesday with a compelling performance that led to overtime action against the eventual champions.
The Hurricanes survived the first round of the Piedmont Athletic Conference (PAC) tournament last Monday with a 47-41 against Carver but was defeated 50-43 in overtime by the #1 seeded Greene County Tigers, who completed the season with a 13-1 record.

In an outstanding game, Keldrick Davis scored a season high 36 points; Joseph Standifer, 4 points; James Kelly, 2 points; and Keri Pompey, 1.
The Tigers went on to the championship game last Saturday dominating Youth Middle School 55-43 in regulation.
The Canes ended their season with a 5-9 overall record and in the top four rankings of seven league teams including Greene, Youth, Morgan, Social Circle, Loganville, and Carver.
For his efforts during the season, non-returning eighth grader Davis was named to the PAC Boys All Tournament Team along with nine other middle school athletes form the league. Davis earned nearly 500 points throughout his two seasons as a Middle School Hurricane, according to coach John Hopper.
Lady Hurricane Chelsea Reeves was also named to the PAC Girls All Tournament Team. Eleven other young ladies join Reaves on that team. This is the first year that the league has named All Tournaments teams.
The Lady Canes were defeated 27-13 in the first round last Monday by the Morgan County Lady Bullpups. On the ladies side, the undefeated Loganville Lady Red Devils won the championship title against the Social Circle Lady Redskins.
Davis and Reaves will be honored with awards from the PAC league later this year.
